The stage has been set for growth
Precision, Innovation, Flexibility: Our values are the basis for our customers’ success – and ours: ilast year turnover of the Poppe + Potthoff Group increased by approx. 7 % to almost 170 million Euro. We expect growth to accelerate again this year.
To fulfill with our performance promise, we continuously expand our skills and production capacities. Such as, for example in our main factory in Werther, where Bengt-Henning Maas, as new CEO, is working with employees and customers to develop new applications.
To give growth some space, our special machine division as well as parts of the coupling production moved into a new building recently. And in 2015 investments will continue: in our employees, systems and technologies. With 15 locations and sales partners in all the important world markets, we are expanding our presence internationally.
Common Rails for powerful engines, precision components or couplings for high-speed applications: all our company divisions share high competence in metal processing and an uncompromising specialisation in particularly demanding customer requirements and market segments.
Production area in the Czech Republic doubled
In Kunovice, the production area is now being doubled to 8.000 m2. Poppe + Potthoff is thereby creating additional space for customer-specific production of precision components. Hydraulic systems, performance-enhancing drives, comfort and safety systems of vehicles are typical application fields for the components, which are precision-produced here in aluminium, steel and copper alloys and precision assembled and tested with the help of a high-grade flexible machine park.
“We are very pleased that we can now also take over the production of precision components for other renowned automobile suppliers” says Lubomir Bilik, CEO of Poppe + Potthoff s.r.o. “The requirements, for example for components for electronic stabilisation and anti-blocking systems or also with injection technologies are very high. Precision and highest quality, as well as an extremely precise delivery reliability are indispensable in the automobile industry. We are proud to comply with these criteria successfully.”
Tube mill with new CEO
Bengt-Henning Maas took over management of the precision steel tube plant in Werther in April. Predecessor Christian Mörke ensured a seamless transition: Maas accompanied him for six months and got to know all processes and people in the plant. Mörke now bowed out into his well-deserved retirement. He spent 30 of his 45 working years at Poppe + Potthoff where he last successfully headed the customer-specific tube production as technical manager.
Maas is physicist and, as specialist for process and material optimisation, gained management experience in the metal processing automobile supplier industry. In Werther he focuses on the further expansion of quality and flexibility in the customer-specific tube production. Another major emphasis is the strategic development of new business areas, e.g. for special profile tubes in an expanded material spectrum. The management team is currently working on a product and technology roadmap.
R + W Engineering Art at the Hanover Fair
“The art of coupling” was the focus of the trade show exhibit of the Poppe + Potthoff subsidiary, R+W Antriebselemente. The Klingenberg-based company is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and presented its skills in artistic photography. If one looked at the aesthetically pleasing product details with the help of a Tablet PC, further information was made visible via an Augmented Reality Application. This allowed the company to display its efficient drive train solutions in an innovative fashion.
R+W presented, among other things, a new safety coupling for high-speed applications. It is based, in principal, on the principle of the tried-and-true ST product line. The new design is, however, far more compact and lighter weight due to new materials. With rotary frequencies in the kilohertz range, e.g. in the automobile or pressure industry, the new coupling offers reliable protection against overloads and helps to minimize downtime. In addition, flexible couplings can be integrated into the design to meet individual requirements.
Common Rail for powerful and clean engines at MTU
Gensets, diesel-powered power generators for ships, heavy land and rail vehicles and industrial drives are a special strength of MTU, a brand from Rolls-Royce. The engines are high-performance and at the same time economic, clean and sturdy. The latest generation of these engines sets new standards with low total operating costs and low exhaust emissions. Technologically decisive for success is the electronically controlled Common Rail Injection System.
Common rails and diesel injection lines from Poppe + Potthoff are used both in genset application for continuous power supply or as emergency power generator, as well as for industrial drives and locomotives. They prove their worth at continuous constant load as well as frequent load changes. The rails with a length of up to 1300 mm reliably provide high pressure in the injection system for an in-line 6 cylinder of the MTU series 1600 all the way to the V16 engine of the MTU series 2000.
As a result of the demand for larger rail internal diameters for large-volume engines MTU employs the high-strength PP 1100 rail material.
